Welcome

Hello/Hola/Hallo/Bonjour !

Welcome to this blog ! If you are an European volunteer or you want to become one, if you are just a work experience or you are part of the staff, even if you are a simple visitor... you are in the right place! We are sure you will find what you want here. And if it's not the case just leave a little comment and we will try to help you.

This blog has been done by the EVS volunteer 2010-2011 of Fairthorne Manor YMCA. We have been 12 months in England, and that's all what we have learnt, done and discovered. Enjoy it !

OXFORD

13th-16th January 2011

Maël, Shabnam, Arjun, Kerstin, Maud, Antonio and Esther... what an International team!

This time we chose MEGABUS for our journey, it was the cheapest way, for only £8 go and return and it took only 2 hours from Southampton to Oxford. I've got to say that the Oxford bus station is far from the city centre and you have to pay £1,8.
Our hostel was the Backpackers for £16 (£18 weekends), it was clean and full of young people (100% recommendable).
Total: £120 everything inlcuded

It is worth to visit a college, I would recommend Christ Church because it is the biggest and has some additional attractions like its Great hall which inspired the Harry Potter's dinning hall and some of the movie scenes where recorded on those stairs. It is also said that Lewis Carroll was inspired by the Head Master's daughter to create Alice, and you can follow the kid's steps through the city including into the sweetshop.
I would advice not to miss the Ashmolean museum, the covered market, the Bodleian Library (where you can find a copy of every single book published in England and it has been extended underground, the Carfax Tower ( it has the best views of the city for £2,25 and the Sajon's tower because is the olddest building.

Hope it can be useful for you!
